Prepare for blast off! At Out of This World, kids will spend a week discovering the God of the universe. Our galaxy can teach us a lot about the God who made it, and by learning more about the sun, moon, earth, and stars, we can discover truths about God’s character and why He alone deserves our worship. In this 5-day VBS, kids will explore our solar system and discover that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and always with us, God is holy, God provides for His people, and God always keeps His promises. On our last day, we’ll enjoy a cross-cultural experience with our partners at Young Life Haiti. It’s going to be Out of This World, and we hope you’ll join us for this galactic adventure!

Each day at VBS, we’ll use a different cosmic body to help us learn the Biblical truths of God’s character. Read about each day’s theme and galactic connection below, and check out our Daily Schedule 2017 for specifics of the morning. You can also download a copy of our OOTW Parent Packet for answers to all of your questions.
Monday: The Sun – God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and always with us. (Psalm 139)
The sun is the brightest star in our sky and the center of our solar system. Even when it is hidden by clouds and we cannot see it, its power and presence remains. By talking about the sun’s power, presence, and importance in our lives, kids will learn the three “omni’s” of God (omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence) in a way they can understand: that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and always with us.
Tuesday: The Moon – God is holy. (Isaiah 6)
The moon lights up the night sky, but its light does not come from itself! The moon reflects the light of the sun to shine its lunar brightness. Kids will learn that like the moon, we cannot shine by ourselves, and our light only comes from one source: God and his holiness. There is no one else like God, and He is holy, set apart, and perfect. Because of sin, we are not. We have to recognize God’s perfection so it can shine through us.
Wednesday: Earth – God provides for His people. (1 Kings 17)
The planet we call home is the only planet in the solar system that provides everything we need to live: water, land to grow food, an atmosphere we can actually breathe, etc. God made the earth this way so we could survive on it, and He cares for us so much that He provides for all of our needs, even beyond the basic necessities of food and water. By looking at how the earth provides the perfect home for us, kids will learn that we can trust God to provide for all of our needs.
Thursday: The Stars – God always keeps His promises. (Genesis 12:1-9, 15:1-5)
Scientists believe that our galaxy could contain up to 400 billion stars, but we can only see about 5,000 of them at one time on earth looking up at the night sky. That’s a lot of stars we cannot even see! The stars can remind us about God’s promise to Abraham to give him descendants that would outnumber the stars, and kids can learn that even though we may not get the full view or understand how everything will work out, we can trust that God is faithful and will keep His promises.
Sunday: The Universe – God loves us, and Jesus is proof of that love. (Gospel 5)
During our regular Sunday morning service, beginning at 10:30 AM, RISING Kids will recap our week at VBS by focusing on the ultimate proof of God’s love for us: Jesus.
What about Friday?
We are so thankful that North Gwinnett High School allows us to meet there for VBS, other special events, and on Sunday mornings, so we respect their decision to close the school completely on Fridays. No events happen at NGHS on Fridays, so Out of This World ends on Thursday. However, we are offering a special cross-cultural event that morning for any children who would like to learn more about the culture of Haiti through our mission partners at YL Haiti. We will meet at the YL Farm (4764 W Price Rd, Sugar Hill, GA 30518) down the road from the high school from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM to hear from a Haitian friend, drink mango juice, learn a Haitian song, and enjoy a Haitian market where you can buy some of the products made in Haiti like necklaces, home decor, and more. There are no sign-ups required for this event, and it is one we hope you’ll bring the whole family to!
RISING Kids is connecting with our parents through a special parent podcast, titled Along the Road. These podcasts are designed to be listened to in the car with your children on the way home from church/VBS each day. You can listen to Along the Road episodes on the RISING Church app, which can be downloaded on your mobile app store or find them on our website here. Sign up to receive texts of the Parent Podcast by texting “@ootw17” to @81010.
